RaonDigital Vega Unboxed - Part 1 & 2

Because my Server was crunched by Terabytes of requests attacking my little RaonDigital Vega video today I thought I’d make a mini-YouTube version. If you prefer to download the 16:9 183MB Version then just follow the link, otherwise a slightly edited and much smaller version can be viewed here.

I’ll have the Vega UPPC (Ultra Portable PC) for a little while and will report back on more thoughts and taunts; if there is anything in particular you need to know then leave a comment and I’ll make sure I fit it into the next video.

Download the Vega Users Manual here (in English)

Great Video Hugo.

The Vega looks like a cost affective solution - one that should have market in the right price. I think the lack of integrated WiFi is too bad, but guess it comes to cost.

Good work, and nice camera indeed.

Cheers Gilad,

The Vega has a lot of things going for it but I'm afraid that the lack of built-in WiFi will cause a few stomach's to turn.

You should see the screen though - wow! Five minutes with it and you may see it as your preferred bedside media viewer - "no WiFi to drain battery!" LOL

Hey Chippy! Glad to have you back from OS. Post your thoughts and we'll compare notes!

Thanks for the chat today too - lots to talk about. :-)

Congrats on the unboxing, and great videos! You seemed to beat Chippy to the unboxing so I'll ask you a few questions if you don't mind. I had made a post about the Vega when it was first announced a few months ago, i've been wondering how the battery life on the device is, and also how the amount of memory (or lack thereof) is working for you. Any ovbious speed issues?

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

Nice to hear from you mate, and thank you for posting your thoughts.

I'm right in the thick of analysing the product and will have lots of thoughts soon. Chippy and I talked this morning and we both agreed that battery life is unbelievable. As far as speed goes I also cannot say anything wrong. It's important to know that I haven’t installed any software yet so we'll see how it runs with some software running on it.

Visit back often and I'll let you know my thoughts.

Cheers
- Hugo

Great intro to the Vega, Hugo!....really enjoyed the background sound effects in Part 2!... ;-)

Meanwhile, as of today, how would you rate the Vega compared to some of the other UMPC/tabletPC choices out there??? Such as ASUS R2H, Fujitsu P1610, etc...

Thanks,

Mark

Hey Mark,

The sound effects come at no extra charge, and with compliments of my wife. :-)

In regards to your question I am afraid that you are asking too much. The Vega, an Ultra Portable PC (UPPC), is not comparable to UMPC in any way. It lacks DialKeys, 7" display, Tablet features and much more...but...it has the best battery life and the best display quality you'll ever see.

Buying a Vega is probably somehtihn that will happen when you need to replace an iPod or Creative styled product. The bonus is that with this little "media viewer" you get XP features that really work!

I like it as a gadget, not as a desktop replacement; a must ahev for any geek wanting to look bleeding edge! LOL

At 5:01 AM, Blogger ArchiMark said...

And I thought those effects were from the 'Uber Tablet Sounds Effects Dept'....but I like the 'low-tech approach'... ;-)

Good way to put it, Hugo....about the Vega....I agree certainly don't see it as a desktop replacement...more as a PDA on steroids??

Just wish that it had:

1GB RAM
CPU compatible with Vista
Built-in WiFi
Stylus Slot
CF or SD Slot

If so, I'd buy one immediately...

;-)

Why was there no follow on bankruptcy then? The bailout of AIG FP went to (wow power leveling) hedge funds that bound credit swaps on Lehman failing or others betting on rating (wow power leveling) declines. AIG has drained over 100 billion from the government. Which had to go to (wow power leveling) those who bet on failures and downgrades. Many of whom (power leveling)were hedge funds. I-banks that had offsetting swaps needed the money from the AIG bailout or they would have been caught. Its an (wow powerleveling) insiders game and it takes just a little bit too much time for most people to think (wow gold) through where the AIG 100 billion bailout money went to, hedge funds and players, many of whom hire from the top ranks of DOJ, Fed, Treasury, etc. ZHANG XIAO CHEN
