Q1 Ultra in Australia

Yesterday some of you contributed to my FedEX Man post (thank you) and today I am pleased to say that the package is in fact the brand new Samsung Q1 Ultra. Stay tuned for a video soon, both here and on GottaBeMobile.com. (Special thanks to GBM for sending me the unit!) I am so excited to have this machine to test and "a little birdie told me" that %he Q1 Ultra will be available in Australia really soon!

I was beginning to wonder when you would get one and quite frankly I avoided all posts about it waiting for your Vlog.

That's how much I love you, Hugo! LOL

Will that great screen seduce you back into a 7 inch device ?

I am too curious to wait for the VLOG though and I have to ask you about its thickness. What do you think of it ? From the pictures I have seen it looked quite thick.

I look forward to this!

Hi Elo!

You've been a long time reader and I value your comment - thank you. I will make sure I answer your question in the Vlog(s).

If anyone else has burning questions you need me to address let me know. Cheers.

Great questions Elo, as usual!

I am interested to switch from a normal "laptoper" to ultra mobile. I have an original Q1 for sale in mind. Its on auction for about NZD600 to NZD800... do you think that is a good deal?

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

Hi Anonymous,

The NZD sounds great. I would check the condition and ask if all recovery discs are available too, they would be my only concern.

I will do my best to define the deifference for you...from laptoper to UMPCer! LOL. love the terms we're coming up with.

Thanks for the comment, I will try to find out. By the way, where is best to get the accesories (extended battery and keyboard, etc)... Q1 is virtually of non-existent down here in NZ. The auctioneer got it from the states.

p/s: like to say great informative videos on youtube

UMPCer wannabe ^_^

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

hi joshua,

In New Zealand you are actually well off as Vantex Distribution looks after all the UMPC...call and ask for Katie Poulson and say "Hugo sent me!"

Enjoy!

Hugo,
Any recommendations on where to get UMPCs in Oz without feeling completely cheated? Tagatech's markup is disgusting.

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

Hi Anonymous,

What State are you in, i.e. NSW, VIC etc.. (last time I asked someone this, they answered..."sober!" LOL.

In Tegatech's defense their prices are RRP only. These guys do not sell to the public they only sell to Resellers, i.e. they are a Wholesaler. The RRP is displayed as indicative only. Shoot them an email and telll them your query. Make sure you tell them Hugo sent you! Tegatech will put you in touch with your closest reseller. Cheers.

You only get to test it? That's a shame... If only you could keep it.

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

Who said I'm giving it back! They can come and get it ...DownUnder! LOL.

Tegatechs prices are only slightly higher than you can buy for overseas, to me its all about Australian warranty, its worth that little extra. Looking forward to the review, just hope we will see the hspda one, ill buy a Raon Everun or this depending on hspda intergration.

everunman said...

The person who commented re being cheated, cheated compared too what?
Buying one overseas?
Theres so many extras involved
Freight costs, gst customs clearance.
I work in the customs clearance industry and Tegatechs prices are pretty good compared with importing one (if you can find an american company that will ship here)
And warranty buying one here.
mmm

Cheers boys! You're the best (Anonymous - above MichaelDawsom - and cheers michael.)

I for one know that value is in the dollar you spend. Spend less and you normally get substantially less too. From what I've heard Tegatech is unbeatable in service, knowledge and value add. :-)

It's great to see so many tegatech employees on the board!
Now I know where the markup goes. Keep it up boys!

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

Hold on Anonymous,

I wouldn't mind if you stop with getting distracted. NO ONE reading this blog or replying on comments is a Tegatech employee. I was thanking the folks for defending the process more so than any company in particular. I thank you for your feedback but would ask that school yard bullying (especially of my readers) be left to a minimal. Cheers mate.

Hugo,

How do you like the typing with the split keyboard? To me it doesn't look ergonomic. Any feedback...

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

I'm getting more use to it. I will cover this off in a video soon. There is lots of "bounce"in the keys but the problem lies in its size only - too tight. ergonomically it is smart that they placed it high, any lower and it would be intolerable.

Great comment Big D, I will keep you posted.

Just for the record I dont work for Tegatech, just a happy customer
I bought a raon vega for $1370 with postage, paid with my anz visa, who double the Australian warranty.
A ebayer in korea sold them at the time for a$1200 incl postage plus Id would have had to pay $100 to customs for gst. $70 cheaper via ebay no warranty.
I had a small glitch with it and my email was answered within the 1/2 hour. Just my experience

I am surprised that it actually does get better using the keyboard in terms of speed and in terms of not hitting multiple keys.

Hugo,

I know this isnt going on your belt, but curious if the newer slim sesign can fit in inside suit pocket, if necessary?

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

Hi Jim,

(Is this a statement or a question you have made?)

I am interested as it sounds like you are having some success. If it is a question then yes, it gets easier. You just need to learn where to stab.

Cheers Jim,

Hi Scotty B,

HAHAHA, you made me laugh. becuase of my previous posts now I am fashion coordinator too. WRT to your question I am afraid that it does not fit mate. I tried for you just now and no luck. (Plus Rob Bushway wold never forgive me for promoting it like that! LOL)

My comment about the little keyboard was a sharing of experience and asking if you agreed (want to be sure I am not deluded myself in the midst of passion about this device). So you provided the answer thanks.

Man I do love writing on this, even more than my active digitizer tablets. (fuji 5020D, Tosh M205, and TC1000)

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

HAHAH. Thank you Jim for clarifying that. Always good to clear up communication between mates!

I have to agree with you regarding the writing, it is exceptional. Stay in touch.

Hugo - glad to see you and the Q1u having a bit fun, my you had that poor thing blushing with that bit of over exposure, LOL! I like the improved screen rez & newer graphics chip, scouring my closet now for a shirt or jacket with a bigger pocket... Maybe you can talk with Michael Jordan now the the 2 of you have more in common & get Nike to put out UMPC to fit "ultra mobile wear". IMHO you really do know how to make a fshion statement, LOL!

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

Ha Opus! You're the best. Between you and I we will have a new brand of clothing named "UltraMo-Ability" with Michael Jordan as our mascot! What do ya reckon!

(By the way the blush is real on both the Q1 Ulta and I. The Q1U was more than happy to see me...LOL.

sanity said...

Hey Hugo, when do you expect Australia stock of the Ultra?

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

hi Sanity! NEXT WEEEK! (starting week of the 25th of June 2007!!!)

I wonder if any Aussies will read this???

scottyb159 said...

Hugo,

Missed you had responded, thanks as usual. I figured it didnt fit but why not ask (thanks for trying). WHile some people may find it silly, for me the next move must be pocketable to be a further increase in added priductivity over my p1610.

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

Hi Scottyb159,

It was not silly and in fact well worth asking. It is something that others probably have on their mind but did not bother asking. It is often the questions you ask (that feel awkward) which empower the people around you the most! Well done.

Hugo, thanks for taking the time to put all the information you have on UMPC. I have just got my first (Q1 Ultra)and am loving it. I have been patiently waiting for a Tablet with Vista. Please keep up the great work and thanks again.
