Australia gets all Samsung Q1 flavors

Earlier today I received word from within the guts of the Tegatech den that Australia now has access to all the Q1 Flavours! This is awesome, not only does Australia and New Zealand now have stock of VIA’s Q1B (with 5hrs battery on standard battery) but I have been told the SSD (Solid State Disk) is here too [as seen on JKonTheRun].

Now this news may not even raise a splash in the Northern Hemisphere, but Downunder in Australia and New Zealand this is enough to make a grown man go weak at the knees. IT's A BIG DEAL TO US OK! Looking under the UMPC section on the Tegatech Australia website I can clearly see that the Samsung stable now includes:

I can’t sleep!

I like your blog and all, but don't you think you should probably make it a bit clearer that you either own or work at Tegatech? This is the sort of advertising technique that can easily backfire when people feel duped. (Whois tells me the domain is registered to you.)

How about a review of that newest flavor of Q1P with Vista. Or a pre-review--tell us what you can or what you have time for. I'll settle for anything as I try to make some decisions here. Thanks--I know you are swamped and have secret thingys with microsoft but any info appreciated. Love you blog.

Hi Simon,

I think you've misunderstood my claim to fame mate. It is not Tegatech. While I do own and operate the company it would probably be obvious that it barely pays the bills. Having said that, neither does this blog.

So when you look at Hugo Ortega you see someone carving a name for himself be trying to be the best teacher he can be. If, and when, Tegatech receives a mention it will nearly always be as third person becasue this blog is not a marketing tol. Never has been.

Hopefully you've been following for longer than three posts, if that is the case you wold know that I work hard tp make sure I deliver clear, powerful, concise messages that allow readers to take the information and apply it to their lives. I wish to increase you productivity and knowlege through all the resources available at my fingertips. Shoudl Tegatech fall into this resource then so be it but I challenge you to find it mentioned more than 5% of my entire blogging life - so if anything that should tell you just how clever I am as a marketer...let me think.

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for the comment. My dilemma has been that I am new to the secret world of Microsoft. Now when I type I often have to think...and that was never the case.

Here's my promise: the gloves are off. I have tried to ask before I post but now I am goign to start posting. Lots. Tomorrow is my Monday and I promise you I will pst a video regarding the Origmai Touch Pack, then I will see what I fit in but during next week I will look at the Q1P and more.

So Hugo, will you be replacing that q1b that you had to loan out? I can tell you it's been an amazing computer for traveling!

Hugo Ortega said...

Hi Ken,

Great question. The Q1B is about the best little PC I have owned to date. As you have witnessed via my blog the Q1B and I have been inseperable when travelling.

I have picked up a Q1P with Vista on it on one of my recent trips and I am afraid it is my new friend...the thing I miss however is the fact that the Q1B with XP performs better than the Q1P with Vista.

Ken said...

Too funny...I am sure I am not the only Q1B owner who switches between an XP and Vista image of their machine on a monthly basis. But with batteries (and not processors) being the biggest problem with today's laptops, the Q1b is my best PC friend.

Hi Hugo,

Thanks for the response. I really do actually like the blog -- and I have been reading it for many more than the last few posts. Obviously I've got no idea how you make your money -- none of my business really! (I'm just here for the gadgets!) I also have no problem with you linking to your own company; it would seem strange if you didn't, in a way -- you'd be denying people a useful resource.

I think you could probably actually help your company by associating yourself with it more strongly -- you've got a name in the UMPC scene. People would probably trust your company more, and might even feel like they should support it.

That's what's cool about companies that blog when they do it right -- it makes the whole thing seem more open and reliable.

Keep up the good work on the blog, anyway, it's excellent.

Cheers Simon,

Not sure if we're on the same page on this but there is obvious merit in what you're stating.

I'm as focused as ever on keeping the UberTablet Blog reliable, trustworthy and full of integrity. You have some cheek trying to educate me publicly. Everyone here knows I have an open door policy and they are all welcome to communicate with me online and offline; lots of folks have leveraged off of my good name via UberTablet and Tegatech. The parallel universe that peacefully coexists is there to benefit the community more so than me personally and to date, you are the only one that has felt the need to voice anything of the contrary.

No hard feelings though mate. Writing a blog is a very vulnerable exercise in humility – an experience I enjoy every day, and will continue to do so. Cheers.

Apologies for bringing it up in a public comment -- to tell you the truth I probably would have written an email if I'd noticed the email link at the bottom of the page :)

(I read it in an RSS reader though, so I guess that's why I never noticed.)

I guess it wasn't meant to be so confrontational, just more a "did you realise how unclear the link is" type thing. Should probably just leave it here though -- you're no doubt right: I imagine nobody cares that much about the whole thing :)

(Except perhaps you, and if I've offended you, I apologise sincerely.)

Incidentally, it's good to see someone supporting the Australian market for these things; some of them can be hard to find. If I were currently living in Australia, I'd no doubt be in contact at some point in the future. (Unfortunately I'll most likely have to deal with the expense of buying in the UK...)

Thanks again Simon, and honestly, no offence taken.

Thanks for reading by the way, and for the great comments.

Hi Hugo,

Interesting that there is still demand for all the "flavors" of the Q1. I had sort of viewed them as an evolution of one product rather than as a product line. Hey, more power to Samsung if they can position it that way! As I post (on my MacBook) I'm reinstalling XP on my Samsung Q1. I miss the old Q1, there are just too many compromises to performance with Vista to justify the "new car smell" of Vista.

TXGitarman said...

Oops, that was me, Tax Man (aka Bill) by the way.

Hugo Ortega said...

Hey Bill,

Nice comment. I guess the fact that they are available simultaneously would allude to some sort of product line but I would hesitate to suggest that it willl get narrowed. Q1 (original) may well become a thing of the past.

Samsung has been clever in that they have been first to market and most proactive in the UMPC space. I think they have enjoyed the monopoly they own and will unquestionably milk it for all it's worth.

GReat comment.
