Disneyland Slates

Yesterday I posted about visiting Paris with my Samsung Q1U. Ironically in the post I mentioned I might report back some Tablet PC fun but truthfully I didn’t think I'd come up with much...

Having said that here is what we were faced with when we entered the Disneyland Paris theme park today, i.e. 2x Fujitsu ST5111 Slate PCs. The good news is that the two folks carrying the devices we "Uberly" enthusiastic about the setup; they absolutely loved them. As we talked over the details we found out that the devices were under refresh, and we also found out that there were three new slates in contention for the honor! My next question was "which ones" to which the answer came back "Je ne sais pas!" What a shame!

For those of you interested, the devices were being used to show maps and provide (and collect) information. Rather proudly they were all being used in slate mode (not surprisingly as they are not convertibles) and with nothing other than the pen!!! So cool! “Très Bien!”

They've been doing this for a good couple of years, ended up answering a questionnaire from a tablet toting member of staff and thought it was way cool.

Mickey gets Tablets ;) (shame that post isn't up any more as it was on the old version of my blog)

Hi Colin,

I did not know! It is really good news for the Tablet community as there are so many thousands of folks that pass through the gates of any Disneyland in one day so the results for awareness sake are massive!

Cheers.

Hi hugo,
I'm the anonymous guys. I will use my real name and the blog for post you my questions.

I'm new in the world of tablet pc. I got two questions for you:

First: I want to buy a tablet pc wit toucht screen and all like the Q1 of Samsong but i cant have one here in Canada because they are not saling in my contry so i have look around in the states i have find some but the warranty will not be applied if i buy it there. So i was asking myself if you have an idea about where i can buy one wit the warrant applied in canada?

Second: If you dont have any idea, can you recommend me some pc like the Q1 that i can find them in Canada?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hello Clodéric,

It is nice to finally meet you! With regards to your purchase it is easy. Tegatech Australia will be happy to ship to you and warrant the device via the USA. Order here

Ok so the warranty (of 1 year I think)will work for the Canada? Because does of USA dont work. I have try to buy one wit dell but they dont want to sell one to me in canada just because the warranty don't work in canada. Look at that, ttyl

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

Hi Clodéric,

Tegatech will honor a RTB (Return to Base) warranty via an office it has in the USA. For Australians it does not make sense to do it this way but for Customers in Europe (and even Canada) you can see that it does. This means that if in the first 12 months you have any issues then you can send the device back to an address Tegatech will give you in the USA for your service.

This means you can enjoy full warranty and in the USA. How's that!

Oh ok well thanks a lot for your help. Now i understand!!!

Hi Hugo,
I have think a long time about the Q1 of tegatech and im not sure if I will take this one in australia because it will cost me 500-600$ more than if I buy it without the waranty in USA. So im asking you if you have other idea of where I can find it ?
If you have no idea its ok, I will just change the Q1 for another ultra pc choice.
Thx for your help

Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts in Orlando, Florida, USA, uses these rugged Tablet PCs (xTablet T8600) to get people into their parks faster by busting down the lines (line busting). They utilize integrated bar-code scanner and credit card reader (magnetic strip reader) to read park tickets.

They use rugged tablets because obviously these handheld, mobile computers are used in the outdoor elements.

http://www.myruggedtabletpc.com is the web-site of the xTablet T8600 model by MobileDemand.

Cheers.

Hugo Gaston Ortega said...

I am sorry Mobile Demand but that sounded a little too "salesy". Can you send concrete evidence of what you are stating? As you can see, and read, the device in Disneyland is not rugged, and it is not by MobileDemand. It was a pair of Fujitsus.

I love to know your thoughts.

Dear Hugo,
Of course I can clear up any confusion you may have. I am a tablet enthusiast - to the point that I am the editor of the Tablet PC category in DMOZ. I am also the founder and president of MobileDemand as a matter of disclosure. I have been involved with tablet computers in my businesses since 1993.

You had seen and mentioned that Disney in Paris was using Tablet PCs for customer service area showing maps and such.

Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts in Orlando, Florida, use approximately 40 of the MobileDemand rugged xTablet computers for the line busting application in the various parks as I described. They may also use other tablets for other means, but I am not aware.

I was trying to state facts as much as possible to include the unique features of the rugged tablet they use.

In fact, we would love to have you help to review our xTablet sometime if you are interested. It is almost strictly meant for vertical market applications rather than consumer use, but certainly is important to get the word out that likely the most significant industry segment that has adopted the Tablet PC techonology lies in vertical business markets and industries.

hi Mobiledemand,

I must have misunderstood as I thought you were talking about Paris Disneyland...where I was. As far as Florida is concerned I must admit I am out of touch and would take your word for it. Good job!

With regards to your other comment, i.e. reviewing a unit, that would be great. I would welcome the opportunity and would even promise to post a video about it. How soon can you organise this (email me: hugo at tegatech dot com dot au).

With regards to DMOZ I must admit I am a little disappointed. I submitted several sites several times over the last few years and had no reply or contact from any one. Maybe you can help???
