Hugo Ortega does Fujitsu U1010

I've pushed the envelope and burnt the candle at both ends this week to bring you, yesterday's "The Shift" video, and today's video of what we lovingly term The Stormtrooper! Both were promised and as such both were delivered.

These videos have been much anticipated so with the burden of your buying decision in mind I have made the humanly impossible, possible. If you pay close attention you will notice that I am in the same attire for this video, as I am for The Shift Video, as I am for the Nova SunPad video - which is no coincidence as I filmed and edited them all on the same day! (Plus currently uploaded my TechED Speech which I will post shortly!)

Great video Hugo... and tempting!

A couple of questions:
Is it possible to use the U1010 lefthanded? You are obviously right handed and use the device as such, and I notice that most manufacturers seem to build devices for right handers.

Secondly, could you post the link to the aftermarket GPS cradle... this thing is looking more and more like it could make a great Carputer system running something like Streetdeck.

Thanks
Marc

Link to cradle (found on jkkmobile blog).

Hugo,
This is too much. After watching the Shift video, it seems like you are having a hard time selling this device.
The whole time I'm waiting for you to say, "Don't buy this...wait for the Shift!"
Thanks for the video and comments.

Steven

Hi Hugo,

According to your video review, you said the screen is like P1610 that utilize the palm rejection technology. However, the screen of U1010 selling in Hong Kong is like a PDA screen that didn't implement palm rejection technology. Is Australia selling another version or is there any setting in the control panel that control the palm rejection technology?

Where in the World is HUGO... LOL. Hugo great video on all three devices. I really like the Shift but having the lower speed compared to my Q1P seems that I might take a hit. Any ways have a good vacation.

You showed the PPC part of the Shif in Video, but only partially as after this video I do not know whether it is a fully functional PPC or just partially? Can I run on it all PPC applications? For example TomTom?

Best regards,
Peter

Hi, I have the beauty Q1, Because after I watch your video where you compared about 7 UMPCS, I runed to Best Buy to get it, I was just thinking about since how long you haven't make any post... Well I hope to get news soon, no matter if they're good or not because I check your website every day. Good luck and UMPCS ROCKS!!

Thanks Hugo for answering the inking questions! I hope you're having a great time wherever you are. Looking forward to more of your reviews. I hope you come back soon. Will you do another review with the U810 with Vista optimized or something? I probably won't get my hands on it for awhile and well there aren't anymore new reviews out there.

Thanks for the revues Hugo - the vid's are great.
Couple of questions:
I'm looking at getting my hands on either the U1010 or the HTC shift (when available), 3rd choice is the V7112XT. I intend using it for 4wding, mapping and GPS,MP3 storage and the usual mutimedia functions and would like to know which u think would be better suited to semi rugged conditions as it may be in the vehicle or extended periods(but not permanent). Do u have any info on wether the displays are sunlight readable for both, as glare is a big problem.
Have looked at the TufTab V7112XT as option but would prefer the either U1010 or HTC shift purely for the k/b facility of both.
Intend fitting a SSD drive to reduce dataloss over corrigations.
Any light u can shed on these 3 would be greatly appreciated. Gotta get me one of these UMPC's - like soon!

Thanks
Peter (Gadget)

nice videos and good effort Hugo.
you often talk about the power connector on the devices as "AC"
AC stands for "alternating current" (the wall-socet delivers AC)
Usually, the power connector on the devices accepts "DC" which stands for "direct current" (batteries deliver DC)
if you look carefully on the back of the GPS unit (holder) of the U1010 that you have shown in the video, it says 13.8V DC which is the voltage rating of a car battery.
So, you might want to care for the correct term in your future video reviews.

Hi Hugo,

I recently saw the tiny little U1010 in Malaysia at one those electronics markets in Kuala Lumpur. It is an incredible little device! I was SOOOO tempted to buy one (but with a U50, a UX180, Picturebook, a Libretto, and a TC1000 tablet pc at home I chickened out... Oh, and that's not to mention the Macbook, Macbook Pro, two iBooks, two older powerbooks, a Sony T series, an iMac and a Quicksilver G4....)

Nice piece of kit though!

Greets from a fellow Sydneysider and gadgeteer. One that picked up a U1010 today from Capitol Computer Pty Ltd in George Street (AUD $1700). Uploaded a few unboxing photos if anyone is interested - http://tinyurl.com/2elsfe. My main gadget album is at http://tinyurl.com/26krbc - Cheers Derek (OzDJ)

Where is Hugo?

Perhaps Hugo got a peek at the p1710 and this time Fujitsu decided to tie him up until the official announcement!
Seriously where is the p1710 I'm dying to buy something like that here.

I have seen hugo get all excited over the HTC shift in one of his latest reviews I wonder how he would rate the samsung q1 ultra and his oqo against this new upcomng machine (Htc Shift)

You alive? We all worry that hurt yourself with one of those dangerous umbrella drinks. You could lose an eye!

I hear that folks are liking the Fujitsu storm trooper or Darth Vader models. Are you reconsidering your recommendation? Still sticking with the OQO as your primary?
