Hugo Ortega growing Australia one UMPC at a time!

Dear Readers,

(How are you all?!?!)

It may please you all to know that I am still here, have lost none of my PASSION for UMPC and Tablet PC, and more specifically am missing you all more than ever.

It seems in the past three years I have burnt the candle at both ends and as a result have had to suffer the loss of the BLOG...or better said, the maintenance there of. While my thoughts are with all of you daily it is unrealistic for me to think I can balance a successful business, family and the UberTablet family without growing supernatural powers. It would be disrespectful to you to assume that I can, and is creating a feeling of disappointment in myself.

So here is my promise. If you can bear with the limited publications I can provide at this period what I promise is to bring you the best of me as often as I possibly can. I admire the perseverance of some of you for emailing me constantly and am humbled by that support. I promise I am with you with the same passion and smile.

The past 18-months have been particularly good to me. The UMPC and Tablet PC Wholesale Organisation I run has grown over 400% (Tegatech Australia) and I was blessed enough to travel with my wife and two children for three months (including Paris, Dubai and more) and my commitment to the UMPC platform remains steadfast. In the last 12 months alone I have been invited to speak to Heads of Major Banks, International Guests, Major Blue-chip Organisations in Mining and Medical...and much, much more. I have travelled with over 20 UMPC as hand luggage almost monthly on interstate trips and all of this to grow awareness in Australia and New Zealand; interestingly my regime looks to have no slow in pace in sight!

My latest toy is the OQO e2 64GB SSD with HSDPA and outdoor optimised display; and I must admit that it has made me the happiest Geek in the Southern Hemisphere.

I have read all your comments and in saying that would once again thank you; keep them coming as they do make a difference. SO while you wait for my next comment or video why not reflect on videos of the recent past. Talk soon!

Dear Hugo,

I totally understand and congratulations on your success. Keep spreading the Tech and Post when you can. Enjoy your friends and family and keep the business rolling.

I think I have finally decided to purchase the Q1 Ultra Premium within the next couple of months. I'm sure my first UMPC purchase will be a great experience.

Best Regards,
Lance aka Foo

Hugo great to hear from you and that everything is good. I want to congratulate you on the great success. We all understand that things might come in the way but, family comes first. I will keep on checking in, and looking forward to your future posts. By the way I have since purchased a Fujitsu U810 and very portable and works great. I have Vista Business installed. I travel from jobsite to jobsite and need something portable. I still have my Samsung Q1P. Well good luck and will look forward to hearing from you, with new gadgets.

Hugo, my dear virtual friend,

I'm so glad you're back. Hope you can say and feel that life is great.

In the meantime I'm the proud owner of a black Asus EeePC 4G. I modded it to Windows XP and 2 GB of RAM plus bluetooth and a 8 GB SDHC card to run all of my navigation software on it.

A very inexpensive rugged solution for maritime navigation or on shore or up in the air as well. I call it my everywhere fun-engine. In fact you can't put it into your pocket, but I still call it a mobile device. I have to admit that the display ist'n sun viewable, but I installed a tiny ( 211 KB ) utility that allows to double the display's brightness and this helped a lot.

At Cebit ( Hannover/Germany ) Asus announced the new 8.9" EeePC900. When it will have a touchscreen one fine day, I'll have to invest again. Luis, my grandchild, 3 years of age, is already requesting my present EeePC.

Hugo, all of your fans are waiting for your next exciting blogs with tension.

Kindest regards
Big Max

yo Hugo! (we sort of say thing inverse on our side of the pond over here)

What a relief to here things are good with you! I definitely understand and as others have already said, you've got your priorities straight.

Glad to hear you are still an OQO enthusiast. I still have my "measly" 1st edition model 02 but loving every minute of its benefits.

peace & good health be with you & your family! Opus

Hugo!

So glad to hear from you! I was getting worried about you. I'm so glad to hear it's the good stuff that's keeping you busy. Congratulations!

Have you ever considered finding a blog partner? It's a lot for a one man show. Maybe somebody at TEGA TECH could be your straight man and fill in now & then? I'd still be waiting for your crazy touch, but I'd know you were alive. Just a thought. You could take it a bit easier without guilt that way.

You're great enthusiasm for mobile toys makes you a marvelous evangelist. Glad to hear its paying off for you. Now delegate, and have fun!

Hugo,
You have provided great reviews and have the ability to talk to influential people in UMPC design. I think virtually all UMPC's are missing the mark due to two areas: the lack of a touch type keyboard and not being small enough to fit in a jacket pocket. I think if someone created a UMPC based on the old clamshell form factor, it would be a huge hit. What is really missing is a jacket pocket size touch type computer that runs full windows; something small enough to fit in a jacket pocket yet as large as possible to provide good touch type keyboard input. I think the ideal computer to model is the Psion 5mx and if a modern version ran full windows then it would enable UMPC to take off in large sales.

I hope you can find a way to help that message get to people designing new UMPC's. Thus far UMPC has sold a weak 350K units in all of 2007. The clamshells of the 1990's sold over 2.3 million each year. Now imagine clamshells with full windows, that could be huge!

My goal has always been to meet you so this is a real treat.

Your blog truly chronicles the rise and fall of Tablet technology in realltime : ) Your blog rise when the tablet pc are in great enthusiasm and fall when you run out of communications :)

Maybe tablet pc will have a comeback just like Bruce Lee feinting his death.

Merry Christmas and a bad year for tablet pc.
