In Queensland today with swag of Tablets

It's 7am and I’m testing out my new 3G upgrade while sitting in the Qantas Lounge waiting for a flight to Brisbane (Queensland, Australia). I’ve got several meetings planned which include partner meetings with the Health QLD, Herron Todd White and Datacom to name a few. On these days I rarely get time for lunch, or a break, but ultimately that’s what happens when you enjoy what you do, right?

I’ve packed a swag full of ten Tablet PCs and UMPC which include:

Fujitsu T5010, DT Research LogiPad, Arbor Gladius, Gigabyte T1028X, Amtek T10, TabletKiosk MediSlate (MCA), Viliv X70, Viliv S5, Samsung Q1-EX and TEGA Tablet.
It’s always funny to see the look on Security’s face when I start pulling out 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc…devices. The spaghetti of cables and AC adapters is another favourite of theirs too! Without question I almost always get swabbed and scanned under new anti-terrorist laws for “suspicious behaviour”. My response is “why, how many computers do you travel with!?”

Good Morning Hugo,

wish you lots of success, while you're touring with SLATES & UMPCs & MIDs. Make 2010 a real year of mobile devices DOWN UNDER.

Regards
Big Max

Hi Hugo,

I've forgot to answer your general question.
My mobile companions are a Motorola mobile phone, a Dell PDA and my 10" ASUS EeePC. This is much too much to carry around. I hate to leave home with a trunk of electronics. One always has to carry a smart bagpack, that's boring.
At present I'm looking for ONE device of 5" or 7" with smartphone and netbook functionality as well.

Regards
Big Max

THanks Big Max for the "vote of confidence!". I'm glad to hear you're still on a "gadget mission" and I can relate to where you're at! An all-in-one is all I've been waiting for since OQO planned their 2+. Imagine if that unit came to market with voice support it would have been the ULTIMATE!

Hi Hugo,

I remember 2008, when you became a OQO maniac ( http://www.big-max-web.de/cgi-bin/content-page.cgi?path=/Visual_Navigation/Pocket_Navigation/News_2008 ).

Unfortunately this device disappeared from the market. Due to its price tag it couldn't make it over here and elsewhere, I suppose.

I wrote a few e-mails to some of the worldwide maufacturers and let them know about my device strategie and expectations. Got some ignorant replies in between.

I believe I'd found my own distribution company to offer OEM devices I'd like to buy myself, but I take fright in the risk of such entrepreneurship.

I better keep going out for sailing and forget about chasing after mobile devices.
But I've got the virus and can't get rid of it. Yes I'm a manic, too.

At present there is the CeBIT fair in Hannover/Germany and some interesting prototypes are shown. I hope, that at least some of them will make it to the stores ( http://www.big-max-web.de/cgi-bin/content-page.cgi?path=/Visual_Navigation/Pocket_Navigation/News_2010&mode=view ).

Kind Regards
Big Max

That's so great Big Max! Both these links are gold mate, and show just how addicted you are! Like me, you seem to have the bug and it's one you just can't shake! :-)

If I were you I would stay focused on the mobility space as you can help greatly in your region with the posts you write and the contribution you make. It is efforts like yours which keep people educated and understanding these somewhat ubiquitous, yet idiosyncratic devices. Starting your own business is a whole different story and that may not be worth it when you begin to look at the margins offered by hardware vendors! LOL!

Awesome mate, well done!

Good Evening Hugo,

thanks for your kind reply.

I'm well known in the region rather for expertises in marine electronic navigation than for mobile devices. But both topics goes together hand in hand and create lots of communication among interested people.

That's it for the moment but I'm sure there are lots of things to come.

Have a nice week and remember that a workweek isn't the unfriendly/disagreeable interruption of two weekends.

Kind Regards
Big Max
