This is always a very exciting time of year, new launches, new devices and lots of anticipation from every show. CES promises to be exciting for UMPC so keep an eye out.

ReplyDeleteHey Hugo good to see your post... I happen to be at the CES 2009 Tablet Meetup and got to see some nice stuff, and got my hands on the Sony P at the time it wasn't out. I brought along my Kohjinsha SC3 and MSI Wind loaded with Windows 7 and Leopard.I was also trying to get my Aigo P8860 ready but didn't have time to finish it.

I missed the Tablet meet-up this year but promised myself I'd be there next year for sure! I like the Kohjinsha you have but was concerned about the battery life. How did you find it?

hi, I'm looking for advice. I'm interested in a tablet PC for a specific purpose and wonder if you can make a recommendation.
ReplyDeleteI'm a paraglider pilot and the original purpose of paragliders was to climb mountains and fly down. So light equipment is essential. But as paragliding has developed it is becoming more and more instrument intensive.
What I would like is one piece of equipment that can do everything a pilot needs, be light weight, long battery life (9+hrs), highly visible screen in bright sunshine and easy to use with gloves on!
So, here's a list of instruments we fly with and some of the requirements:
-Variometer - indicate rate of climb or descent
-GPS - needs to be able to vary timing between signals
-Air maps and topo map software for GPS
-vhf radio
-wifi
-bluetooth
-3G technology
-handwriting recognition/touch screen
-processing power enough to replay GPS tracks in google earth or other 3d imaging software to analyse flights.
-video playback
-USB ports
-vga &/or other video out ports
There are probably other requiremenst that I haven't thought through.
It needs to be light weight, fairly rugged (can take a hard landing or the pilot and equipment getting dragged across launch or landing field (I would think solid state rather than a hard drive). Water resistent. Small. 5-7" screen would be great.
Cheap would be nice too.
Any recomendations?
