Fujitsu P1610 Video (back)

My original post was pulled down due to the massive attention Fujitsu received...and yet today they flicked me an email saying "put it back up." I guess the Chalice has been let out of the bag!

Just for the record, I was the first in the world to vlog it!

Hey Hugo,
You aren't a Microsoft MVP for nothing. We remember. I am excited, again, about this new tablet. Thanks to Fujitsu for allowing the RE-post.

Hmmm, I was going to comment the dangerous driving. Got to be the first "video-camming and driving" offence! hehe...

Anyhow, thanks for reposting it! :-)

Hi Hugo.
Thank you...
Can you try new? t4215?
I'm uncertain between R1 and T4215...

And q1b or r2h??

Thanks again for the repost of the video Hugo. Salivating is mildly putting it.

Nice touch with the preliminary shots and I'm definitely going to support the team and buy my Christmas Camera from your sponsor (they provide good service anyway)

Wow "DualView" support. Is that Fujitsu for dual monitor support (extended 'desktop')?

Dude, if you have it up at near the P1510 price this stuff should 'fly'

Well done.

hi Everyone!

You guys rock, truly...

The reason for my lack of response on your comments has a good reason. I won't blog about this as I keep my personal life quite seperate from my blog life - so this is a message to my "real readers;" the ones that even read all the comments.

Last night at 7pm, the 2nd of November 2006, my second child came into the world. Her name is Amber Rexhina Ortega and came to the world as a 2.8kg, 50cm, little girl. Her identical twin sister, Dea Gashi Ortega, past away at 24 weeks gestation and was delivered successfully last night also (God Rest Her Soul).

Mum is doing well and Dad is over the moon. Thank you for your support, love and enthusiasm. As I always say, "you guys rock!"

I'll answer your comments shortly. And post some new stuff too!

Hey, great video, so tempted by the laptop, except for the fact the memory is so different and therefore so expensive! Shame otherwise I would snap one up asap.

Hi Pinele,

Thank you for your sincerety. It sounds like we have more than just cofee and UMPCs in common! *smiles* Thank you, thank you.

Aaaaah,

Congratulations on Amber and best wishes to mum and dad.

Now we all know the real reason for when you get less time for posting. Kids can definitely help dads with their prioritisation 'problems'. ha ha ha ha.

But Hugo, I'm not sure the world can deal with another Hortego if the kids are going to be as effervescent.

Now you have to start making real money. 8-)

Hugo,

I'm also keen to find out when it's released, how much, etc.

Hey, congrats on the little one!

Cheers,
Steven Snell.

Hi Hugo,

Say all the references I've found
like Fujitsu's own spec at http://www.computers.us.fujitsu.com/www/content/products/notebooks/brochures/DS_p1610.pdf
make no mention of the SIM (GSM chip), You did mention a second sku,
does tha mean it will be released latter? or "only" to a selected market?

Cheers

Anonymous,

Hugo will probably get more 'in-the-know' information, but the Fujitsu-Siemens reference I mentioned above agrees with your assessment that the SIM thing is a separate SKU.

Integrated UMTS, also supported are GPRS and EDGE (Available Soon)

After the availability question, what I would like to know is whether the machine will use 2.5" HDD or 1.8" HDD. I am hoping to upgrade the HDD on this laptop (bigger and faster, able to leap tall buildings) and was wondering whether the 2.5" could migrate to a new P1610.

The P1510 specs are 2.5" but the only other reference to HDD size I've found on the web for the P1610 is 1.8".

I held off buying a 1510 figuring a new version would be out soon. Im glad to see I was right, but I am kinda disappointed by the new version.

They added a PCMCIA slot for more expandability, but ignored the new ExpressCard format which replaces it.

If it were an express card slot, I think this purchase would have been a no brainer, now its a toss up on saving a few bucks by getting the older version, or the new one with a slightly faster bus speed.

Note: I use CDMA so GSM cards do nothing for me.

Hugo,

You were talking about the x-y coordinates with your palm and the software that eliminates 'vectoring' - does that mean that the touch screen can be used with your finger/s in the same way a UMPC can? If so, does it have Dial Keys?

Cheers,
Steven Snell.

Hugo,

How would you rate the screen compared to the Lenovo x41.

Thanks

Hi Gang,

I've let this thread run as I've obviously been a little caught up. This P1610 is still one of the most visited topics on my blog and the video is one of the most viewed (check out all the links and comments).

To answer some of your questions (but as personally as you are accustomed to due to lack of time) I have prepared some points:

Yes, we all do thank Fujitsu for allowing me to repost!

Driving and video-ing is definitely not recommended :-)

Battery life has not changed from the previous model so standard life is officially quoted as up to 4hrs - so it should be around 2 to 2.5 (if you know what I mean)

DualView is the Fuji terminology for extended desktop, although I can't confirm whether it's clone or "real" extended...get back to you on that.

Price will go live next week! AUD

Product deliverable end of November in Australia

Regarding RAM be careful because the P1610 still runs the mini SDRAM which costs up to three times more. Upgrading to 1gb of RAM in Australia will cost over $1,000...no shit.

Regrettably the 3G SKU is not scheduled for release next week. It will release in Australia for Christmas - I know this comes as bad news but again remember that anything good is worth waiting for.

The HDD is a 1.8"

Express Card slot is missing, ashamedly - but there's always P1710 remember (did I say that!)

The palm rejection technology is a combination of software (HID Driver) and Hardware. Because the touch is a heavier weighted touch (to help lean-and-write) it means that the DialKeys would be more uncomfortable to use on this device. Plus, DialKeys won't ship on this unit anyway as they are part of the Origami Project (UMPC) and can't be bought separately.

I noticed many of you asked about UMTS availability. The fact is that the standards that surround this sort of feature are so stringent that even OEMs get tied up in the red-tape. It takes a lot of money and time to pass all the tests so I can only suggest that UMTS/3G will keep getting delayed. As I've alluded to above, probably Christmas time...hallelujah

Big shout out to all of you that congratulated us regarding the new baby. Amber is doing well, and Leon, our first child, is happy too. Obviously this means that they’ll own a Tablet before they own a boring, regular, PC. You can expect more evangelizing from them; so watch out world – the Hugos are multiplying.

I think 9Dragons is my favorite game, I did not know how to play at first, someone told me that you must have 9Dragons gold. That he gave me some 9 Dragons gold, and then he said that I could buy 9 Dragons gold, but I did not have so much money, and then I played it in all my spare time. From then on, I have got a lot of cheap 9Dragons gold, if I did not continue to play it, I can sell 9Dragons money to anyone who want.
Once I played AOC, I did not know how to get strong, someone told me that you must have aoc gold.He gave me some conan gold, he said that I could buy age of conan gold, but I did not have money, then I played it all my spare time. From then on, I got some cheap aoc gold, if I did not continue to play it, I can sell aoc money to anyone who want.
